Rating: 4.5 Stars

Summary:
Last spring, Nikki Beckett vanished, sucked into an underworld known as the Everneath, where immortals Feed on the emotions of despairing humans. Now she’s returned—to her old life, her family, her friends—before being banished back to the underworld... this time forever.

She has six months before the Everneath comes to claim her, six months for good-byes she can’t find the words for, six months to find redemption, if it exists.

Nikki longs to spend these months reconnecting with her boyfriend, Jack, the one person she loves more than anything. But there’s a problem: Cole, the smoldering immortal who first enticed her to the Everneath, has followed Nikki to the mortal world. And he’ll do whatever it takes to bring her back- this time as his queen.

As Nikki’s time grows short and her relationships begin slipping from her grasp, she’s forced to make the hardest decision of her life: find a way to cheat fate and remain on the Surface with Jack or return to the Everneath and become Cole’s...

Review:
Wow! This book has everything in it! Romance, suspence, action and adventure and MYTHOLOGY!

The story is told by Nikki, who you learn right away
made a devastatingly bad choice. She choose the easy way out, and went to the Everneath so she didn’t have to feel pain any longer. Now she has Returned to the Surface for only 6 months before the Tunnells come to take her away forever to feed off her energy.

This story was unlike anything I had ever read before. I love mythology, but this is a very unique twist on the story of Hades and Persephone.

Characters: at first it was hard for me to like Nikki. She seemed young and naïve and chose to give up her entire life and those who loved her all because her boyfriend hurt her feelings… ButI really grew to love Nikki as she learned from her mistakes and realized that her love for Jack was worth more than anything else. Jack was AMAZING! He waited for her everyday of the entire 6 months (on the surface it was 6 months, in the Everneath she was gone for 100 years!!) while she was gone, hoping she would return to him. And Cole… well I don’t know how I feel about him. He is power hungry and has no problem feeding off humans so that he can stay immortal. AND wants Nikki to be his Queen so they can rule the Everneath. But for a while I kinda believed he loved Nikki, I just don’t know.

Plot: Like I said earlier, this story had it all! At first it was kinda confusing, as the author switches back and forth between the time leading up to when she left, and the present time, leading up to when the Tunnels return.  But after a while, I really enjoyed that she did it that way.

Romance: WAS PERFECT! I already said how amazing Jack and Nikki both are, so it was obvious that their romance was good as well. They had been friends for years before they decided to be together. It wasn’t too fast, nothing was unbelievable, everything was perfect.

Overall, this book was EVERYTHING I expected and I cannot wait to read Everbound, the second book.

  1. That is such a GORGEOUS cover. I've been admiring that design for a long time. Still haven't read the book (tho it sounds intriguing!), so thanks much for the review. I also enjoyed your Girl of Fire and Thorns review on Goodreads--I liked that book too!

  3. It's definitely a beautiful cover. I love reading books that do twists on Greek myths, especially Persephone and Hades. I got this one a while back, but I have yet to start it. Can't wait to though. Glad you loved it.

  4. EEEEE! I remember reading this book earlier this year and fell head over heels for it! Everneath is such a beautifully written book. It's gorgeous, THE COVER IS GORGEOUS, the characters are AMAZING and I am desperate for the sequel already! At the beginning, I was Team Cole but after the events that happened in the end of the book, I don't even know which team I'm on! XD

Anyway, awesome review! ♥ So glad you enjoyed it :)
