Review: Unearthly by Cynthia Hand

Unearthly (Unearthly, #1)

Title: Unearthly
(Unearthly #1)
Author: Cynthia Hand

Summary:
In the beginning, there's a boy standing in the trees . . . .

Clara Gardner has recently learned that she's part angel. Having angel blood run through her veins not only makes her smarter, stronger, and faster than humans (a word, she realizes, that no longer applies to her), but it means she has a purpose, something she was put on this earth to do. Figuring out what that is, though, isn't easy.

Her visions of a raging forest fire and an alluring stranger lead her to a new school in a new town. When she meets Christian, who turns out to be the boy of her dreams (literally), everything seems to fall into place and out of place at the same time. Because there's another guy, Tucker, who appeals to Clara's less angelic side.

As Clara tries to find her way in a world she no longer understands, she encounters unseen dangers and choices she never thought she'd have to make between honesty and deceit, love and duty, good and evil. When the fire from her vision finally ignites, will Clara be ready to face her destiny?

Unearthly is a moving tale of love and fate, and the struggle between following the rules and following your heart.

Review:
I cant believe I waited so long to read this book! I thought… just another Angel book. But it wasn’t! It was so good!

Basically the story is about Clara, who is a quarter angel (her grandfather-mothers father- was an angel) Anyways she, along with every half or quarter angel, have a purpose. A specific reason they were  born. You find out about this purpose through visions between the ages of 15-20. Well, she starts having her visions of a forest fire and a boy she must save.  Then she and her family move to Wyoming so she can be in the right place at the right time.
But things don’t start to go as planned. This boy in her vision isn’t all hes cracked up to be. And to top it off, she is falling for another boy, who just happens to be the twin brother of her new best friend.

The story line was pretty awesome. I really loved everything about it.

The characters were all good. Clara was a normal teenage girl- minus the angel-blood stuff. She had frustrations and crushes, quarrels with her mother and an annoying brother. She was strong, and through the story she learned to find herself.

Christian, the mystery boy she is supposed to save, was not that impressive to me. He seemed like a normal jock. BUT Tucker was pretty awesome. Hes the other one… the one she isn’t supposed to fall for, but does anyway. He is kind and polite, funny and charming. Pretty perfect.

Her brother is kinda a mystery, but I have a feeling ill learn more about him in the next book.

And her mother, geez talk about a mystery. She has so much buried and hidden, im hoping to learn more about her in the next book too.

Also, Wendy and Angela, the two girlfriends, are pretty girl and unique in their own right. Every character was pretty in depth.

The romance was sweet and totally YA. No insta-love! THANK YOU!

Overall, this was an exciting twist on the nephilim myth, with romance and a little action!

  1. I really like this book as well! I gave it a hard time at first because I thought it would be like every other angel book but I was pleasantly surprised. Great review! :)
