Throne of Glass Review

Throne of Glass (Throne of Glass, #1)

Title: Throne of Glass
Author: Sarah J Maas

Summary:
After serving out a year of hard labor in the salt mines of Endovier for her crimes, 18-year-old assassin Celaena Sardothien is dragged before the Crown Prince. Prince Dorian offers her her freedom on one condition: she must act as his champion in a competition to find a new royal assassin.

Her opponents are men-thieves and assassins and warriors from across the empire, each sponsored by a member of the king's council. If she beats her opponents in a series of eliminations, she'll serve the kingdom for four years and then be granted her freedom. Celaena finds her training sessions with the captain of the guard, Westfall, challenging and exhilirating. But she's bored stiff by court life. Things get a little more interesting when the prince starts to show interest in her... but it's the gruff Captain Westfall who seems to understand her best.

Then one of the other contestants turns up dead... quickly followed by another. Can Celaena figure out who the killer is before she becomes a victim? As the young assassin investigates, her search leads her to discover a greater destiny than she could possibly have imagined.

Throne of Glass (Throne of Glass, #1)Review:

I love YA Fantasy. A lot.
This book had it all. Some magic. Sword fights. A little romance. Strong heroes. And even stronger heroines.

The author builds the completely believable fantasy world, with out ever bogging the reader down with info dumps. She brings characters to life, making you love and hate them.
And she does it all so beautifully, that when you finish devouring every word in this book, you're left wanting more.
Right?
RIGHT?

*Spoiler for this series- possibly minor spoiler, as I haven't read the books and only gathered this info from the blurbs and reviews...*

So I, like everyone else who finished this book, runs to look at the rest of them in the series only to discover that the two male love interests (Yes, there are 2, and this is pretty much the only downside to Throne of Glass. IF there's a love interest, let there only be one! Please. Can we just be done with the whole love triangle nonsense, already?!?!) Do not end up with Celanea.

Thats right. Spoiler alert. If you read ANY reviews before reading a book, you'll discover that she ends up with some other guys. Because 2 isnt enough for one girl. she ends up with multiple possible men who want her...or something. And ends up with someone else- who starts out being her enemy. And Chaol- who is obviously supposed to be her life long friend, and end up her lover... ends up not even as a friend or something?

And that just isnt my cup of tea.

SO- while I thoroughly enjoyed this FIRST book in the series, I will not be investing so much time and care for characters by reading more books, only to fall in love with the romance and end up hating it. and getting super mad at the author. and wanting to cry.

Ive learned my lesson one too many times before.
and... there's no reason to make myself mad over this.

Even though Im a little mad.
Ugh.

Rating
Book 5 stars. Romance aspect of the series: 1.
