Review- Stone Cold Touch by JLA

Stone Cold Touch (The Dark Elements, #2)

Title: Stone Cold Tough
(Dark Elements 2)
Author: Jennifer L Armentrout

Summary:
Every touch has its price

Layla Shaw is trying to pick up the pieces of her shattered life—no easy task for a seventeen-year-old who’s pretty sure things can’t get worse. Her impossibly gorgeous best friend, Zayne, is forever off-limits thanks to the mysterious powers of her soul-stealing kiss. The Warden clan that has always protected her is suddenly keeping dangerous secrets. And she can barely think about Roth, the wickedly hot demon prince who understood her in ways no one else could.

But sometimes rock bottom is only the beginning. Because suddenly Layla’s powers begin to evolve, and she’s offered a tantalizing taste of what has always been forbidden. Then, when she least expects it, Roth returns, bringing news that could change her world forever. She’s finally getting what she always wanted, but with hell literally breaking loose and the body count adding up, the price may be higher than Layla is willing to pay…

So…
I hate love triangles.
HATE THEM.

Hate that theyre in so many YA novels.
ugh.

BUT- C’mon. This is JLA we’re talking about. You know its going to be done right!

SO- I, along with every other breathing female out there, was devastated at the end of WHK. Because, why did Roth have to go!?!

BUT- He came back.

So… without giving away spoilers, this is my assessment.

-      Obviously its awesome, because JLA wrote it. And Its just as good as all her other wickedly beautiful books.

-      Yes, Roth is back, BUT for 75% of the book, he is NOT the main guy in her life.

-      At the end of WHK- I honestly didn’t really care about Zayne that much at all… Thought he would always make a good best friend to her, and should end up with Danika… BUT- this book showed us Zayne in a whole new light!!!

-      I still hate love triangles, especially when theyre done well, because then no matter what, someone who deserves her, wont get her. And youre heart will be a little broken.

-      Layla learns stuff about herself, and is more independant. I like it. Stacy and Sam are like the constant awesomeness she needs. In fact, all the side characters (Cayman, Maddox, Abbot, etc- all of them feel so real, even though they are only sideline peeps)

-      The ending… I had KIND of suspected something LIKE that was gonna happen, (due to the million and 3 clues throughout the book) BUT I didn’t expect that! L and its sad. So prepare yourself.

-      The last 25% of the book… maybe the last 15% Was pretty Fing epic. Like, holy crap on a cracker epic. Like- probably the best ever.

-      I still love Roth more. Even though Zayne has so much more history and basis for a strong relationship with Layla, Roth gives so much of himself, its really kind of beautiful.

-      Also- I love that the bad guys aren’t always really bad… and the good guys aren’t really always good. Because really life is not black and white!

-  PS- I hate having to wait so long for her next book!!!And when it comes out, Ill be all like...

So there you have it.

Go buy it. Read it. Love it. And then wait an agonizing amount of time for her next one, with all the rest of us

5 Stars. Obviously

NaNoWriMo 2014 and Beta readers!

Fellow bloggers…
How far I have strayed from my original mission of being a writer… Like an actual writer who earns her living from writing.

For oh so long I have been away (studying IT gibberish) in an attempt to better my life and job. I know, I know, it sucks even worse than it sounds. My muse got bored from lack of attention, and I fear she may have left me.

I will get her back!

Or perhaps, she is peeking in on me now, as my craving for words to be spilled is growing.

What happened? What could have caused her to check in on me?

I blogged…
I mean, not really. I didn’t blog a post, but I went to blogger (for the first time in WAY too long) and checked on the most recent posts.

One caught my attention. A blogger I used to follow (and still technically do, though- as I said, blogging hasn’t been a huge priority for me lately) posted something about betas.

So I ran on over to HER BLOG and quickly devoured that post, and then several more. So much had changed with her since I last read her posts! And she has decided to self-publish! Yay.

Anyhow, we decided to swap our manuscripts for a quick beta- and holy crap it was a fantastic story! Not something I generally read, but she sucked me into this whole new world. (Very Game of Thrones but clean and for a younger audience.)
It was AMAZING and...

And then my muse came out…drifting out of those pages as I read a good book giving me hope and at least an URGE to write again.

Why have I not even READ in so long? No wonder my life is in chaos (or maybe im slightly exaggerating…) At least- mentally Ive been lost.  Always doing things I HAVE to do instead of things I WANT to do...

So… This is what I propose.

I will set up some goals to get me through the end of this year. See below.

  1. Get more betas. SO – if you want me to beta your MS. Let me know (TheresaJonesAuthor at gmail dot com) I’ll beta for you if you beta for me.

  1. Nano!!!!! Write 50,000 words on Book 2 of The Empyrean Chronicles in November. Add me as a buddy on Nanowrimo HERE

  1. Read at least 2 books a month (AT LEAST- aim for 5 a month, but at least 2)

  1. Hopefully start the first draft of Book 3

  1. Decide officially when I will publish Book 1 in The Empyrean Chronicles.

So there you have it people.

Buddy me on Nano

Beta my book and ill beta yours.

Keep your fingers (and toes) crossed that I manage to scrape up a few (a LOT more than a few) thousand words and finish another book.
AND now im PUMPED!!!!!
Lets do this!!

Opposition (Lux 5) Review by JLA

Title: Opposition (Lux 5)

Author: Jennifer L Armentrout

Summary:

Katy knows the world changed the night the Luxen came. She can’t believe Daemon stood by as his kind threatened to obliterate every last human and hybrid on Earth. But the lines between good and bad have blurred.

Daemon will do anything to save those he loves, even if it means betrayal. But when it quickly becomes impossible to tell friend from foe, and the world is crumbling around them, they may lose everything to ensure the survival of their friends…and mankind.

Review:

Amazing!
Can I give a one-word review and just leave it at that?
No?
Ok.

So, we all know JLA is the best of the best. Every.Single.Book she writes is like glory etched in gold. Romance. Action. Shit-gone-bad and you have to find a way to fix it before the world ends and your lover dies. But you still get to kiss in the middle of it all…

This epic alien saga was summed up nicely. Daemon, Kat, Dee and Archer were present. Dawson and Beth had super minor roles.

Enemy Luxen have invaded and wanna take over the world.
They decide to try and stop them (because really… what else can you do in that situation?)
Bad stuff happens…
There’s some steamy kisses.
More bad stuff happens.
Your heart will break. #sadface
And then the quick- almost anticlimactic ending happens. (was kinda bummed about how quick that went down)
hen more kisses.

 Loved it.

I will say it was weird… because when it ended I thought there would be SO much more. I was reading the paperback, and didn’t realize that Shadows (the prequel novella) was at the end… so I thought there was a good 100 pages left when it ended.
#superdupersadface

Haha

 Anyways
You can also read her little “A Few Years After Opposition” on her blog post here.

Rating: Obviously 5 Stars
