Review: Hush, Hush

Title: Hush, hush
Author: Becca Fitzpatrick
Rating: 3.5 Stars

Summary:
For Nora Grey, romance was not part of the plan. At least, not until Patch came along. With his easy smile and probing eyes, Nora is drawn to him against her better judgment. But after a series of terrifying encounters, Nora’s not sure who to trust—she can’t decide whether she should fall into Patch’s arms or run and hide from him. And when she tries to seek some answers, she finds herself near a truth more unsettling than any feeling Patch evokes. For Nora stands amid an ancient battle between the immortal and those who have fallen—and choosing the wrong side will cost her life.

Review:
So… Im a little torn in this review. Before reading Hush, hush, I read several reviews on it, some that said this books is more than amazing, and some that said it was supporting sexual harassment and stuff. So going into it, I was a little weary.
Now that I have read it, I have no idea what
those negative reviews were about… Was this the best book ever? No. But it wasn’t terrible and it definitely does not support rape, sexual harassment or anything like that.
So lets start with MY review. The writing was great, I was instantly pulled into the story and didn’t put the book down until I finished reading it 5 hours later. So it was a quick easy read that I really enjoyed!
Plot- Well… though most of the plot was good, there were a few things I really didn’t understand or like. I kinda already suspected who the “bad guy” was long before it was revealed. Some things happened that seem SO unrealistic (even in an angel book) for example, they want to make a distraction so that Nora can go through the school records, so her friend calls in a bomb threat…? What? That’s a little much!! Or the school councilor tells Nora to be weary of Patch and stay away from him… but she never says how she knows about Patch, or why she should stay away. Then Nora just accepts that. Really?
Other than the things that annoyed me, the plot was good. Nora is a normal teenager, with a best friend Vee, who is matched up with a new partner in biology. Then all of a sudden strange things happen, and she fears that its all the new bio partner… then a bad guy wants to kill her. then she falls for the bio partner… I agree, its kinda “twilight” ish… but its not bad.
Characters: this is the part that bothered me. Nora is very normal… and boring. There isn’t anything great or terrible about her. she is average in every way. That being said, there was NOTHING that I could relate to. She was smart… that’s good. She had a friend. OK. That’s it. She isn’t funny, or not funny. She isn’t outgoing or shy. She isn’t anything else… there was no character except, she is a girl, with a name, that likes a boy. She is also annoyingly dumb… Constantly saying she is scared of Patch (which half the time I don’t even know WHY she is scared of him) but still goes around him alone.
Then there is Vee, her best friend… and she is annoying in every way! And despite Nora telling her time and again that she is afraid of the boys she hangs out with, she still hangs out with them ALONE! DUMB.
Then there is Patch. And though some people may not like him, I definetly do! He is conflicted and lost. He is fallen… though he knows it was a mistake. And he only wants to feel, like humans do. He is a bad boy turned good…ish.
I like Patch J
Romance: Considering this is a YA Paranormal ROMANCE novel, I was surprised that there was VERY little romance involved. She doesn’t even realize she likes him until the end. They never really date at all. She fears him most of the book and he… well he IS a bad angel… right? So I can’t really say much without spoiling it. But I wanted WAY more romance!!!
Overall, the book annoyed me at times, just as you would be annoyed with the dumb girl in a scary movie who goes down the dark alley alone at night… and you scream at her to stop being stupid. Haha
But despite that, I enjoyed it! And am about to start reading Crescendo. Hopefully the romance picks up.
