Review: Crescendo (hush, hush #2)

Crescendo (Hush, Hush, #2)

Title: Crescendo (Hush, hush #2)
Author: Becca Fitzpatrick
Rating: 3.5 Stars

Summary:
Nora Grey's life is still far from perfect. Surviving an attempt on her life wasn't pleasant, but at least she got a guardian angel out of it. A mysterious, magnetic, gorgeous guardian angel. But, despite his role in her life, Patch has been acting anything but angelic. He's more elusive than ever (if that's possible) and what's worse, he seems to be spending time with Nora's arch-enemy, Marcie Millar.
Nora would have hardly noticed Scott Parnell, an old family friend who has moved back to town, if Patch hadn't been acting so distant. Even with Scott's totally infuriating attitude, Nora finds herself drawn to him - despite her lingering feeling that he's hiding something.

If that weren't enough, Nora is haunted by images of her murdered father, and comes to question whether her Nephilim bloodline has anything to do with his death. Desperate to figure out what happened, she puts herself in increasingly dangerous situations to get the answer. But maybe some things are better left buried, because the truth could destroy everything - and everyone - she trusts

Review:
So… in all honesty Im a little let down by this book and this entire series. The love connection is SO lacking! In my review of Hush hush, I said I was hoping the romance would step up a bit, but it was the freakin OPPOSITE! Patch and Nora were fighting the whole time, and for the majority of the book, were NOT even together! SUCH a letdown.

Other than that, the plot was
iffy. It seemed that there was too much going on. Too many secrets. Too many turns. Too many what ifs. Too many… everything except the good stuff. So many things that were confusing and completely pointless.

Nora was so dumb the WHOLE time! Ugh. I feel like I just have to rant about this book. I mean, even though you don’t WANT to think about the bad guy being the bad guy, c’mon! She should have figured it way before she did!!!

And again, there were so many things that didn’t even make sense! Who is the Black Hand? What is it? All the flashbacks/memories and everything were too jumbled, and never ended up making any sense!

I mean, we did figure out SOME stuff, like about her dad. But even that whole storyline was confusing.

BUT- despite ALL that… I still freakin enjoyed the book. Why? I don’t even know anymore. I finished it quickly, just like the first. And I still want to know what happens.

Im about to start Silence, and I PRAY that there is some ACTUAL romance in that one!!!

  1. I can't say I'm one for romance, but I'm willing to bet you are. So I'll go ahead and ask: if there WAS some actual romance in this book, would that have made it even better? And are there other inter-character relations that at least help fill the void?

And as a corollary question, what (in your opinion) makes for a good romance? I figured I'd get some input, in the event that I ever end up writing a story with a romantic element someday.

    Anyway, nice review.

    1. Well... the problem is that the book is the second in a romance series. Its listed as a paranormal romance. But in both the first and second book, the romance was... she likes him, then loves him, the end. Thats not love. Because a boy is cute, doesnt mean you love him. you have to fall in love, you have to trust him, and depend on him, he has to be honest and you have to grow to KNOW each other. None of that happened. They just... were in love.
Not to mention, she broke up with him at the beginning of the book, and then he dated another girl. So... how was this a love story between 2 people that were not even dating?
The characters in these novels were ridiculously naive and... they just had no common sense. They would keep doing things exactly opposite of what a normal person with a brain would do. Did it build suspence? Yeah... but it made you dislike the characters.
Thanks though. I wrote this right after I finished the book and was a little aggravated by it. :/

Ah, so it's just like Prometheus. *rimshot*

Anyway, thanks for the input on romance. Like I said, I don't have much experience with it, but it helps to see someone...well, pretty much spell out the important bits. I'll be sure to keep your info in mind.
