Review: Angelfire

Title: AngelFire
Author: Courtney Allison Moulton
Rating: 4 stars (almost did 3 because I got annoyed at the end, but could EASILY have been 5… so I compromised )
Summary:
First there are nightmares. Every night Ellie is haunted by terrifying dreams of monstrous creatures that are hunting her, killing her.
Then come the memories. When Ellie meets Will, she feels on the verge of remembering something just beyond her grasp. His attention is intense and romantic, and Ellie feels like her soul has known him for centuries. On her seventeenth birthday, on a dark street at midnight, Will awakens Ellie's power, and she knows that she can fight the creatures that stalk her in the grim darkness. Only Will holds the key to Ellie’s memories, whole lifetimes of them, and when she looks at him, she can no longer pretend it was just a dream.
Now she must hunt.Ellie has power that no one can match, and her role is to hunt and kill the reapers that prey on human souls. But in order to survive the dangerous and ancient battle of the angels and the Fallen, she must also hunt for the secrets of her past lives and truths that may be too frightening to remember.
Review:
Oh man! This was an awesome book! Definitely my kind of book.

The book starts by explaining Ellie’s life, the life of a normal, wealthy, teenage girl. She has friends, throws parties and has basically no cares in the world- Until she turns 17 and meets Will. Or rather meets him again.
You follow Ellie on her exciting journey to learn who she is, where she is from, and what her duties are as the Preliator (meaning warrior). She must stop Bastian, a very powerful demon, before he brings about the apocalypse. BUT that’s not all, she has to still maintain some semblance of a normal life.
This book is interesting in that, she still tries to pretend like everything is normal. On the one hand, that’s good. She doesn’t just become all absorbed with her love (like so many YA female main characters do) and still makes time for her friends and life. However, if she is some demon slaying Badass, I don’t know how she could even PRETEND to be normal. I mean… at times she was more concerned with a Halloween party than the end of the freakin world. So That has both pros and cons.
PLOT: The plot was GREAT! It moved swiftly and smoothly- however, I did notice that I skimmed over many paragraphs.  There was action and adventure, and things came to light and unfolded at the perfect times. It was different from the normal angel/fallen angel/ nephilim books! Which I loved! I don’t want to spoil anything, but when they figure out what she is, its PERFECT! I loved how and when they figure it out and WHAT she is! Its perfect!
Romance: However, that being said, I HATED the way that the romance ended once they find out what she is! The romance was PERFECT up to that point. It wasn’t love at first sight for either of them. Will has been serving her and protecting her for hundreds of years, so it was understandable he falls in love with her over that time, and how could ANY woman not love a man as honorable and GOOD and hot at Will? But she SHOWED them FALLING in love! Which was perfect (as I already said) I just HATED the way it ended. So sad.
Characters: the main characters were perfectly developed. You know and feel for Will, Ellie’s guardian, the immortal being that has followed and protected Ellie for hundreds of years. You learn more about him as the story goes on, but I don’t want to spoil it! Ellie was a string (only rarely annoying) teenage girl, who tried the best she could to maintain her life while trying to save the world. She was pretty kickass most of the time.
Overall: I really loved this book. It really pulled me into the story and I kinda fell in love with Will a little bit.  There were a few things I didn’t like, but not enough to really detract from the awesomeness. I will be buying and reading the second book soon!
AND Ill be hoping that SOMEHOW Will and Ellie will get their happily ever after…. Or I will cry!

Comments

  1. I've been waiting for someone I knew to read this and tell me what they thought. I was really iffy about if I wanted to read it or not.

  2. It's interesting how one book can give us such mixed feelings... that part was horrible, maybe I'll give it 3 stars... but that other art was super awesome, so maybe 5? LOL. Thanks for stopping by! :)

  3. Oh dear, sounds good, but you're making me nervous with your comments about the romance not ending well. Will have to think about this one. Great review!
